Horses have been the heartbeat of Melissa "Missy" Hood's life.  The Iowa native started riding at an early age and her passion for horses after over a half century of riding is stronger than ever.  Missy spent her youth riding and competing in AQHA events around the US.  Her experiences have taken her through a gamut of English and Western disciplines . Missy feels fortunate and blessed to say she's had many special horses carry her to the limelight over the decades.  Watch This Way, a  sorrel stallion known as "Red",  has been Missy's partner since 2005.  The pair earned  2 AQHA World Championships, National and Regional championships and earnings in excess of $50,000 in both the American Quarter Horse Association and the National Reining Horse Association.  Red retired from Reining competition in 2012 at the age of 11..........proudly sound, sane and successful.   Missy was introduced to Cowboy Dressage in 2013. The opportunity to ride in a Cowboy Dressage clinic, given by Cowboy Dressage founder  Eitan Beth-Halachmy, ignited a new spark to Missy's passion.  The application of riding correct, to achieve a deeper balance and harmony with your partner, was like taking a breath of fresh air.  Cowboy Dressage allows each horse and rider to understand the principles of better horsemanship.  Not all horses are created with equal talent, conformation and pedigrees, but they are created with a desire, when properly 'asked', to simply try to implement what they've been asked.  Missy understands the importance of giving your horse the chance to answer the question you've just asked........ It is with that train of thought in which her training and teaching philosophies are based.  The horse comes first.  Period.  The rider not only should to be the leader in the dance, but also a steward for the horse's well being.  Missy resides in Topeka, Kansas and operates her equestrian business at Greystone Ranch, 8730 SW 61st St., Topeka, KS  66610.  She is a trainer, instructor(endorsed as a Cowboy Dressage instructor), judge and clinician.  Contact her at mhood71@hotmail.com or 940- 641-0635.
